Downtown Jackson is the arrival point for the Capitol, museums, Farish Street context, and neighborhood drives into Belhaven and Fondren.

Two nights provide one complete history day and one flexible arrival/departure pair. A third night gives families a full LeFleur's Bluff day without dropping the museums.

Check in before crossing town for dinner. Fondren has the densest cluster of restaurants and art-minded storefronts; Belhaven adds quieter residential streets and wood-fired cooking.

Saturday
Spend the full day with Mississippi history.
Begin at the Two Mississippi Museums, pause for lunch, then visit the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument when current tour access permits. Add Smith Robertson or Farish Street context only with enough daylight and attention.

A Belhaven coffeehouse on North State Street serving Mississippi-roasted drip coffee and espresso, breakfast, lunch, baked goods, craft beer, and wine.

Main activity
Spend Saturday at the Two Mississippi Museums.
The Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum share a building and an entrance but require separate attention. Allow at least half a day, expect emotionally demanding material, and leave room for reflection before the next stop.

Afternoon
Choose shade, art, or a family museum after the heaviest exhibits.
Fondren's galleries and restaurants occupy the same few commercial blocks. Families staying a third night can move the Children's Museum district to its own day instead of combining it with the history museums.

Reserve dinner at Elvie's.
Seasonal Mississippi French cooking inspired by Parisian cafés and New Orleans kitchens, with ingredients sourced from Southern farms and Gulf fisheries.
Sunday
Choose a family morning or the Capitol and Welty.
Families can pair the Mississippi Children's Museum with the Museum of Natural Science or LeFleur's Bluff playground. The state park and Mayes Lake operation are temporarily closed because of flooding, so check each attraction's current notice. Adults drawn to architecture and literature can visit the State Capitol grounds and the Eudora Welty House & Garden, subject to current schedules.

Sunday morning
Start Sunday with coffee or breakfast at The Bean.
The Bean opens early enough for the 9:00 a.m. itinerary slot. From Belhaven, continue to the Capitol and Welty House or drive to the Children's Museum district after checking Sunday hours and current closures.

One last stop
Choose one final Jackson stop before leaving town.
Use the last block for the Capitol grounds, a reserved Welty House tour, or one family attraction only when its current hours fit the drive home.
